| The rooms, villas and suites at the Kumarakom Lake
Resort are a perfect blend of Kerala’s traditional architectural charm
and luxurious, modern amenities. Each a careful reconstruction of manas,
the 16th century traditional homesteads of God’s Own Country. Over a
hundred ancestral homes had been purchased from across Kerala,
dismantled and used to provide much of the material to create these
authentic heritage abodes. The traditionally styled, luxuriously modern,
open-roofed bathrooms and toilets set in small, aesthetically designed
courtyards are a common feature to the villas and suites. |

| Ettukettu, the multi-cuisine, 115-seat restaurant
owns the place of pride at the Kumarakom Lake Resort. A princely
eight-sided mansion with 2 central courtyards, the Ettukettu bespeaks of
the grandeur of yesteryear Kerala’s regal architecture. Commissioned by
the King Marthanda Varma as a gift to his favoured martial arts tutor,
Edamana Kellamthat Gurukkal, the mansion was built with all the
magnificence of the homes of the nobility of those days. The Ettukettu
had been dismantled from its original location and relocated in all its
glory at Kumarakom Lake Resort, and is today dedicated to the culinary
arts as it once was to martial arts. Set in the midst of the resort, it
has a well-appointed bar that suits all tastes and a wide and varied
choice of delicacies. The Continental, Chinese, Mughlai, North Indian
and traditional Kerala culinary delicacies at the Ettukettu are a
gourmet’s delight, but the speciality to look forward to, is ethnic
Kerala cooking. The fresh catch of the day, rich coconuts and a slew of
fragrant spices lend the cuisine its very own flavour. Specialties
served include Syrian Christian Duck Roast, Duck Curry, Karimeen
Pollichathu, Karimeen Mappas, soft spongy rice bread called Appam,
Thamarappam, Idiappams (string-hoppers), etc. besides tropical fruits,
vegetables and cereals. |

A seafood bar unlike any other, the Vembanad is set
by the banks of the placid backwaters. It offers the perfect rustic
ambience to suit the typical Kerala seafood cuisine, as one basks in the
view of a glorious sunset. The menu includes anything and everything in
seafood, with a dedicated chef in constant attendance. |
| A traditional teashop recreated in its original,
rustic splendour. The boiling vessel that constantly spews aromatic
steam, the cluster of garden fresh bananas that hang by coir ropes, the
open frying pan, the aroma of freshly fried local snacks, the easy
camaraderie. Open in evenings, the Thattukada is an inviting place to
soak in the ambience. To start a conversation, sip a cup of tea, keep
hunger at bay, exchange pleasantries, and relish a bit of Kerala you’ll
cherish for a long time to come. |

Relax by the infinity pool on the banks of the lake,
be refreshed with a cool drink and enjoy succulent cuisine at the Pool
Pavilion, or reserve an evening and the entire Pool Pavilion to enjoy a
private and quiet dinner for two with just the lull sounds of the lake
for company. |
Ayurveda, the wisdom of the sages, the treasure of
the ages, finds new meaning and relevance as modernity constantly
threatens to crumble the glories of the past. Advocating a way of life
that is in complete harmony with nature’s ways. Seeking to maintain the
perfect balance of body, mind and soul. Approaching each ailment, and
each person individually and independently. Reaching deep within.
Healing the very being.
An intricate system of ancient healing that originated in India
thousands of years ago, historical evidence of Ayurveda can be found in
the Vedas, ancient books of wisdom. Ayurveda is made up of two Sanskrit
words - Ayur, which means life and Veda, which means knowledge. Ayurveda,
thus, is the knowledge of life. |
