| Surya Samudra Kovalam is the living expression of
Kerala's ancient and vibrant civilisation. Spread over lush green acres
of landscaped tropical gardens and insulated from the busy tourist
seaside, this tranquil paradise sits on top of a cliff overlooking
pristine beaches by the Arabian Sea in Kerala - God's Own Country.Surya

Surya samudra is a heritage resort designed to respect
your sense of privacy. You will find it easy to carve your own little
world, indoors or outdoors. Each residence is set apart in a private
enclave where you can even call in for some in-room therapy from Spa Niraamaya. The beaches are naturally secluded, keeping the hustle and
bustle of the world outside at bay. And for epicurean delights we offer
you two seafacing restaurants and a sea-facing bar. |
| One of the greatest symbols of Kerala's eco-conscious
architecture is the ancient homestead - the Tharavadu house. Its design
is based on the principle of being in harmony with Nature, be it in the
play of light and air inside or in the flowery, fruit laden garden
outside. Sadly, with the march of time, these magnificent dwellings
began to face the danger of being stripped and sold for timber. Surya
Samudra Kovalam is where that glorious era of architecture has been
saved from extinction. |

Each of our residences is a carefully restored
traditional home. The terracotta roofs, tiled floors, wooden pillars,
and ornate doors evoke a heady sense of romance with the past. Every
article of furniture, painting, and decoration is a handpicked page out
of history. Some of these residences stand graciously on a cliff
offering magnificent views of the sea. Others sit snugly in palm groves
that dot the hillside. |
| Oottupura: The all day dining restaurant at Surya
Samudra, Kovalam. Set in a tile-roofed airy verandah Oottupura affords
you a breathtaking view of the ocean waves as you linger over a
delicious meal. The cuisine is a delectable mix of culinary delights
from across the world and the best of local delicacies. |

Kanal: When the sun goes down, the coals begin to
glow at Kanal, our grill, perched on a bluff promontory that springs out
from the Cliffside. As the fishing boats begin twinkling in the
distance, and the ocean breeze gets cooler, the coal starts crackling to
serve up a succulent selection of barbecued and grilled seafood, meat
and vegetables. The catch of the day, fresh from the sea, is specially
recommended and you can have it marinated in your choice of spices too. |
| Madira: Our sea facing bar is a magnificent place to
lean back and breathe in the cool ocean scented air. A nip in the glass
to match the nip in the air, the waves lazily washing the shore below
you, and a lonely cloud drifting across the star spangled sky. It's a
heady feeling, for sure, that our bartender's expert hands can enhance
as they deftly mix and pour out the choicest of spirits for your
pleasure. |
